TRIP
TIPS

Activities
Besides your guided fly fishing excursions, you may choose to take a float trip, horseback ride, hike, swim, take photos, watch wildlife, play horseshoes, or just relax and enjoy the solitude. Just let your assigned guides know what you would like to do; they will gladly do their best to accommodate your wishes.

Alcoholic Beverages
We are unable to provide alcoholic beverages. However, please feel free to bring your own and we'll provide the mixers, glasses, corkscrews, etc. Your cabin includes a refrigerator for your private use. We do serve excellent wines with dinner, at no additional charge. If you plan to bring your own beverages, plan to make a stop in town. Your shuttle driver would be happy to make any last minute stops you need.

Dietary Restrictions
Just let us know of any special dietary restrictions or preferences in advance of your arrival so our chef can plan your menus accordingly.

Electricity at the Lodge
We generate our own electrical power using a primary and a back-up generator. The electricity is turned on in the morning around 7 am and is shut off during the day to give the generators a rest while most of the guests are away from the lodge. We power back on late in the afternoon as guests begin returning from their day's activities. It's lights out around 11 pm. We have plenty of lanterns for those guests who prefer to stay up later. For your safety, solar powered lanterns light your path to the cabins. Please let us know if you require electrical power for medical reasons or any other special needs so we can make proper arrangements prior to your arrival.

Naturally, there is no electrical power on our adventures in the Bob Marshall Wilderness.

Extra Charges
The rates are per person based on double occupancy and include your accommodations, all meals, wine with dinner, all activities and guided fly fishing with one professional guide for every two guests. Your only additional charges are fishing licenses, lodging taxes, shuttle transportation to and from the lodge, gratuities, fly shop purchases and equipment rentals. On occasion our customers give a trip as a gift and ask that we include these charges in one package price. If you have a special circumstance or need to customize a trip package, just let us know.

Fishing
Check out our Fly Fishing FAQ's for more detailed information about the fishing at Spotted Bear Ranch.

Medical Needs
Please notify us of any personal medical needs so that we may be prepared to give appropriate care when needed. Specifically, we need to know about heart conditions, diabetes, asthma, food or insect allergies, and any physical activity limitations.

Pets
For the safety of your pets and the courtesy of our guests, pets are not allowed.

Other Area Activities
The Flathead Valley, Glacier National Park, and Flathead Lake offer a multitude of outdoor activities such as whitewater rafting, hiking, fishing, golfing, and sightseeing. Plan to explore this beautiful country while you're in the area.

Rental Equipment
We rent Orvis Fly Fishing equipment, including rods, reels, waders, and wading boots. Let your guide know what equipment you will need and we'll make sure you're properly outfitted. For still water fishing, we provide float tubes and fins at no extra charge. Or, Click the Orvis button to the right to shop in advance.

Shop
Our Orvis Fly Shop at the lodge stocks fly fishing equipment, flies, fishing shirts, sweatshirts, caps, and other logo apparel. Most guests choose to place their store purchases on account and pay at the close of their stay. We also stock basic convenience and sundry items.

Telephone
We do not have regular phone service at the Lodge. The nearest phone is at the Ranger Station, within easy walking distance from the Spotted Bear Ranch lodge. The public phone is available 24 hours a day for outgoing calls. There is no incoming telephone service available, but we do check for messages left with our main office several times a day. If you have any special communication needs, please let us know in advance of your trip. Your pre-trip information will include complete contact information to leave with your family and friends in case of an emergency.

Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend trip insurance to protect you in case of cancellation, as payments are non-refundable after the cancellation deadline.  The cost for trip insurance is generally quite reasonable.  There are a number of internet-based comparison sites that provide side-by-side quotes from the major travel insurance providers.  Here are a few of the sites you may find helpful:

Weather
Beautiful mountain weather is the norm, with average high temperatures during the summer months in the 70's and overnight lows in the 40's. Our Rocky Mountains are well known for varying and rapidly changing climatic conditions. Precipitation is always a possibility; we suggest guests carry a waterproof rain jacket. Be prepared with clothing layers for varying temperatures and cool evenings. The elevation at the lodge is 3700 feet.
